Album Info:Is it really 2008? Update: I biked by the Mankato yard Oct. 10, 09; I'm sorry to say the yard office and turn table are gone, and the turn table pit has been filled in. Sad to see a relic of old time railroading endure so long only to vanish now. On a happier note, the beat up SW1200 was up and running, switching cars. There's nothing like the sound of a blown 567.

Description:  The truck belongs to a technician who had driven from Iowa to "just install the bell and horn, fire it it and get it ready to go into service." After I asked him if he thought it was okay to photograph the turntable, he said "Hey, you want to see an FRA violation?" He then shook the rear handrail back and forth about a foot, pointed out the broken battery cable in the open battery box behind the cab, showed me some burnt through-resistors, and explained how the bell and horn that were supposed to be under the generator were nowhere to be found. Sounded like he wasn't going home that night.
